A golf course is a living entity and must not only grow and mature with time but also move with the times. Radical advances in club design and ball technology in the last decade have precipitated a need for many courses to become more challenging by either adding length or hazards such as water and bunkering. For the old and classic courses it is imperative to retain the style and theme of the course while at the same time modernising the way it looks and plays.
Any course redesign is taken on with the greatest respect to the original designer.
Making these changes, however bold or subtle, is best done by someone who understands the nuances and vagaries of the game and who can add real value to the course. Peter Matkovich has made major and minor design changes to over 20 courses that include;
Zwartkops Country Club, Pietersburg Golf Club, Royal Swazi Sun (Swaziland), Kloof Country Club, Margate Country Club, Ficksburg Country Club, Houghton Country Club, Qwa Qwa Golf Club, Stellenbosch Golf Club, Bloemfontein Golf Course, Nelspruit Golf Course, Muthaiga Golf Course (Kenya), Maccauvlei Golf Club, Chapman Golf Club (Zimbabwe), Monument Golf Club, Richards Bay Golf Club, Hermanus Golf Club
