Top soil is initially removed from the fairway and sifted and sorted. The substructure is then shaped with earth moving machinery and then the top soil is brought back and spread evenly, visible in picture 1. This is further spread and smoothed to the final shape before the seeding machine covers the area dispensing seed at the required amount. All irrigation is installed prior to top soiling so that water can be applied as soon as the seed is down. Sloped areas are usually sodded to prevent run-off in case of rain. Beautiful shaping enhances the course immensely while choosing the correct grass species is critical.
